I began this project by creating unobtrusive woven screens and exploring the use of delicacy as a barrier—an investigation of calm physical barriers, spatial divisions, materiality, and unassumed strength. The final collection of 15 white linen weavings varied in width and length, the longest reaching 22 feet. Each piece was woven using a floor loom. Comments about the likeness of the weavings to the human form inspired a relation between the woven patterns and women’s clothing items, creating new, and perhaps visually uncomfortable, weight distributions. Toward the end of the process, I began to explore themes of height and the female form, and an image of self was retrospectively observed in the work. The show was collaboratively displayed with printed work by Naomi van der Lande at 802 Gallery in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in March 2017.
