A crew of three used an excavator to construct a drop drain on the Sage Trail for the City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks. The drain is a three-tier structure built with purchased stone. A sidewall connects the structure to the headwall of a ditch, protecting a fragile hillside. The depth of the first tier is subgrade to the ditch, and the following sections are subgrade to the prior tiers. Riprap stone fills the space between the tiers. The drop drain was designed to slow water as it drains and to catch sediment from the nearby road prior to entering the ditch.
